Minister of State for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Tanko Sununu, disclosed this during an interview on Channels Television. He explained that the beneficiaries were drawn from the national social register under the supervision of the National Social Safety-Net Coordinating Office.

Sununu noted that the Conditional Cash Transfer programme has already reached about five million Nigerians with N419 billion distributed so far. He added that smallholder farmers are also being supported through interest-free loans under the Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme.

The minister, however, raised concerns about the worsening humanitarian situation in the country, revealing that more than three million Nigerians remain displaced by floods, insecurity and natural disasters. He warned that shrinking global aid was compounding the crisis.

Meanwhile, the House of Representatives has set up a committee on flood management. Speaker Tajudeen Abbas urged the panel to propose lasting solutions and close legislative gaps to strengthen disaster preparedness.
