In a statement issued on Thursday by the Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), ACI AS Akinlabi, it was announced that the new fees will take effect from September 1, 2025. Under the revised structure, applicants within Nigeria will now pay ₦100,000 for the 32-page passport with five years’ validity and ₦200,000 for the 64-page passport with 10 years’ validity.

The NIS clarified that the review applies only to applications made inside the country. Nigerians living abroad will continue to pay $150 for the 32-page, five-year booklet and $230 for the 64-page, 10-year version.

According to the Service, the upward review is intended to safeguard the integrity of the travel document and make the issuance process more transparent and efficient.

This latest adjustment comes just a year after the government last reviewed passport fees in August 2024, when the cost of the 32-page booklet rose from ₦35,000 to ₦50,000, and the 64-page booklet increased from ₦70,000 to ₦100,000. At the time, the NIS said the measure was essential to sustain production standards and enhance service delivery.
