Appearing before the Akure Magistrates’ Court, Ajayi confessed to the offence but claimed he acted under what he described as a “generational curse,” alleging that his own father had once abused his sister.

The police prosecutor, Martins Olowofeso, informed the court that the abuse occurred repeatedly between March 2021 and August 2025 at the family home in the Igoba area of Akure. He noted that the offences contravened provisions of the Ondo State Violence Against Persons Prohibition Law, 2021.

Olowofeso urged the court to remand Ajayi in a correctional facility, pending legal advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). He supported the application with an affidavit containing 11 paragraphs, which he said established sufficient grounds for the remand.

The charge sheet stated in part that Ajayi “between July 2021 and August 2025 at Igoba, Akure, within the Akure Magisterial District, did unlawfully have carnal knowledge of your biological daughter (name withheld), aged 17.”

When asked to respond, Ajayi told the court, “I don’t know what came over me. I believe it is a generational curse because my father did the same thing to my sister. It has brought me shame.”

His counsel, Kehinde Osadugba, pleaded with the court for an out-of-court settlement, claiming the victim’s mother had already forgiven him because of his role as the family’s breadwinner.

Magistrate Taiwo Lebi rejected the request, ruling that Ajayi’s admission of guilt was sufficient to establish probable cause. He ordered the accused to be remanded in a correctional facility while awaiting the DPP’s advice.
