Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Lawal Pedro (SAN), revealed the figures on Friday during a media parley to mark the state’s Domestic and Sexual Violence Awareness Month, commemorated every September.

Speaking at the event held in Alausa, Ikeja, Pedro represented by the Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Justice, Hameed Oyenuga explained that domestic violence remained the most prevalent form of abuse, accounting for 3,685 of the reported cases.

He further highlighted that survivors of abuse in Lagos cut across all age groups, noting that the youngest victim documented within the year was an 18-month-old baby, while the oldest was a 79-year-old.

According to him, the statistics serve as a stark reminder of the urgent need for continuous advocacy, stronger community support, and effective enforcement to tackle the scourge of domestic and sexual violence across the state.
