Although the Diocese of Nsukka has not yet released an official statement, several priests from the diocese confirmed that Bishop Okobo died after a brief illness.
Appointed on November 19, 1990, and ordained on January 6, 1991, Bishop Okobo became the pioneer shepherd of the Nsukka Diocese. He served faithfully until April 13, 2013, when he retired upon reaching the statutory age of 80.
Born on November 4, 1936, he was ordained a Catholic priest on June 4, 1966, and later rose to the episcopate, guiding the diocese through its formative years and laying a strong foundation for its growth.
Tributes have since flooded social media, with parishioners, priests, and lay faithful remembering him as a dedicated pastor, visionary leader, and a father figure who nurtured the church community with humility and steadfast faith.
